The Great Climate Switcheroo

It's a truly rare occasion where Charles Johnson acknowledges the rather shady past of his blog, which has been covered in sufficient depth at this very website for several years.

Having evolved from a persistent LGF Watcher to a casual LGF reader following the colossal paradigm shift that site has undergone, imagine my (positive) surprise when reading this thread on a warning about global warming as from over 20 years ago from Isaac Asimov. Well, not the thread itself, but the first comment written by none other than Charles himself:

If I'd posted this at LGF in 2007, Asimov would have immediately been accused of being a commie atheist hack sci-fi writer with no idea what the fuck he was talking about.

Spot on. How often does this kind of statement by the Lizard King happen?

A more interesting question is though: Why does Charles shove all the blame to his former fan base? Back in 2007, would've he done the same? According to 2011-Charles, definitely not. But as he has previously been proven to have a remarkably short memory when it comes to opinions on global warming, it seems probable that he would've joined in.

But hey, this is quite some progress! Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Charles erasing old LGF posts?

Fortunately for aficionados of the way LGF used to be, our voluminous archives (at least through early 2009 or so) do contain excerpts, and occasionally screenshots, of the insanity that Charles foisted upon the world and is now desperately trying to disavow. A recent post of his is entitled "The Roots of Sharia Hysteria," which expends a couple hundred words attempting to explain a phenomenon that Charles could much more easily recapitulate by simply looking in a mirror.

For obvious reasons, LGF Watch has been rather silent of late. Much to his credit, Charles Johnson has increasingly edged away from his past sentiment that demonized Islam and everything related to it, and has lately started thrashing people for "Anti-Muslim bigotry" and for protesting against an ~~89-storey islamofascist terror-breeding, infidel-beheading Ground-Zero Super-Duper-Mega-Ultra-Mosque~~ Islamic cultural center. Yes, times have changed dramatically in Lizard Kingdom.

However, concerning his former allies and friends who have turned into his bitterest foes, none less than intellectual fraud and disgraceful "scholar" Robert Spencer, and his faithful Shrieking Harpy Pamela Geller, who is basically just that... They've become loonier and more bigoted than ever.

So while Charles Johnson's blog is actually becoming quite readable, the only way to stomache the insanity of the anti-Muslim movement is with brilliant exposure with a pinch of parody. Now, we're not planning on shifting our focus to other anti-Muslim extremists across the media, because LoonWatch does exactly that, and they do it very well.

But while LoonWatch may not be new, a new sister site of it is, which focuses on one of LoonWatch's prime suppliers of material, and it needs some publicity. So Ladies and Gentlemen, sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy Spencer Watch! It does a fabulous and long-overdue job of placing Bobby Spencer onto the manure heap of scholarship, right where he belongs. And I'm sure Charles Johnson would get a few chuckles (no pun intended) out of that.

Charles' moment of truth

Charles' moderate-liberal bona fides are about to be put to a serious test... because even though he has publicly flip-flopped on every other issue imaginable, his unconditional support of Israel has, apparently, remained steadfast.

Now the IDF has killed several foreign pro-Palestinian activists on a flotilla of boats -- which may or may not have been in international waters -- trying to deliver supplies through the Gaza blockade. To the extent that Charles cares about retaining his current leftish fanbase, which he surely does if he wants to hold on to whatever traffic he has left, he will have to tread very, very carefully -- for the almost unanimous reaction to this, at least for anyone to the left of Robert Spencer and Pammy Atlas Gellar Shrieks, is shock and horror.

If this were 2007, he would of course be coining amusing nicknames for the victims, heaping scorn on Turkey and Europe and the UN and (why not?) the moldering corpse of Yassir Arafat, and cheering silently as his readers spew every anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian cliché imaginable. But this is 2010, so he can't do that.

So what'll it be, Charles? Back to the future, ignore it completely, or (gasp!) criticize Israel for once?

It seems that our work here, as far as LGF and Charles Johnson are concerned, is just about done. Charles has become a reformed character and the most venomous of the Lizards have been booted or left in disgust. Well done LGF Watch!

Unfortunately, during his rabid days, Charles encouraged others to the dark side. One such is "batshit crazy" Pamela Oshry Geller, mentioned here at LGF Watch many times: (see tags).

Ooh! We got mentioned in The New York Times.

Discussion of U.S. foreign-policy options included terms like “targeted genocide.” As for Palestinians, “they don’t need statehood,” offered one commenter; “they need sterilization.” And on and on. A so-called stalker blog, called L.G.F. Watch, sprang up to document instances of what it considered hate speech on the part of Johnson and his followers. Vanity Fair’s James Wolcott compared Johnson’s site to a “disorganized Nuremberg Rally.”

It also emerges from the article that Charles is engaged to be married. Mazel tov!

A couple of commenters have mentioned that Charles has been deleting comments posted by banned ex-lizards. Sure enough, just the other day he nuked the entire œuvre of Iron Fist, and apparently he has consigned others to the memory hole too.

For the record, we have had to shut down Blogger comments on at least one occasion (before we went to moderation) and wiped out the entire comment database -- but only because enraged LGF operatives had been spamming us with kiddie pr0n and all sorts of other nasty stuff. Not because we've pulled a Great Switcheroo and are trying to obfuscate what we stood for until just the other day.

It's been a while since we looked in at Dennis the Peasant's place, which is why we missed this post from a couple of weeks ago in which he discusses Charles Johnson's mental state and tries to make sense of the Great LGF Switcheroo.

He is, needless to say, not impressed:

When I met Charles, back in 2004, he was fiftyish and driving a somewhat battered Hyundai. According to Raj [Roger Simon, the head honcho of Pajamas Media -ed.], he'd been cleaned out in recent divorce and didn't have much more than that Hyundai, his computer and his bike. That's got to be a tough thing to take at fifty. It is probably fair to say that Little Green Footballs and the blogosphere were about the only things Charles had going for him. Which is, quite frankly, somewhat sad.

Sad, and dangerous.

Dangerous because it gave Charles Johnson, middle-aged mediocrity, the out he needed when it came to dealing with the fact that he was just another average guy. It's something that the vast majority of us have to deal with at some point in our lives. We spend our first forty or so years believing that we are indeed special, that we can indeed do anything we want to (if only we work hard for it). It's what's been drilled into us since birth. And then, one day, we wake up and realize that we aren't special. We cannot do whatever we put minds to. We discover we are mediocre. We are average.

And herein lies the seeds of Charles Johnson's self-destruction: He is not a leader. He's an average guy.

I'd be the last person to claim I know Charles Johnson well. I spent parts of two days around the man back in 2004. But, brief as it was, my contact with him allowed me to size him up in certain respects. What those two days told me, more than anything, was that Charles Johnson was not a leader of men. His bearing did not catch the eye or command respect. Had he been more than average, he might have been able to leverage his Rathergate and LGF success. But as it turned out, cable TV gave him some time and found him wanting. Pajamas Media provided another opportunity, which, if my sources are to be believed, he wasted by playing the disenchanted loner (rather than being a leader).

More important than anything Charles did or did not do, though, was the fact that between 2004 and 2007 we collectively came to understand both the power and the limitations of the political blogosphere. In the heady days of 2003-2004, it was assumed that site traffic conferred, in and of itself, real power to the blogger. That has now been disproved. What we've learned is that it is what the blogger does that confers power. Charles Johnson gained famed not because of his inherent worth as an individual, but because - for one moment in time (Rathergate) - he managed to produce a set of facts that had a material impact on political events. Once Charles stopped producing those sort of facts, his fame (and influence) receeded.

Puzzled commenters often wonder what exactly this blog is for, now that (it appears) Charles Johnson largely agrees with us politically. But that begs the question: what exactly is LGF itself for anymore?

The other day, in the wake of my City Journal piece “Heirs to Fortuyn?”, a couple of anti-jihad writers who had not yet rebuked me for my stance on Vlaams Belang finally got around to doing so. Not only did they send me e-mails taking me to task for criticizing VB in that article; one of them also took it upon himself to chew me out for, in his view, admiring Pim Fortuyn too much and Geert Wilders too little. (Never mind that I’ve defended Wilders frequently and that Wilders has blurbed my new book, Surrender.) Wilders, this individual felt compelled to lecture me, is a far greater figure than Fortuyn ever was. Why? Because, he explained, Wilders stands for “Western values,” while Fortuyn stood only for – get ready for this – “Dutch libertinism.”

Yes, “Dutch libertinism.” The words took my breath away. During the last few days (while, as it happened, I was visiting Amsterdam) I haven’t been able to get them out of my mind. For a self-styled anti-jihadist – who, by the way, I first met three years ago at the Pim Fortuyn Memorial Conference in The Hague – to refer in this way to a man who sacrificed his life for human liberty is, in my view, not only incomprehensible but profoundly despicable. This is, after all, precisely the sort of language that Dutch Muslim leaders hurled at Fortuyn during his lifetime. And in the present case the words were plainly aimed not only at Fortuyn but at me – a writer who, like Fortuyn, that great martyr for freedom, is gay.

What the hell, one is entitled to wonder, is going on here? Why has Vlaams Belang, of all things, become a veritable sacred cow for so many anti-jihadist writers? And why does at least one of them now take such a staggeringly contemptuous view of Pim Fortuyn? I can’t honestly say that I understand any of it. But I do know this: when writers who represent themselves as champions of liberty start cozying up to distinctly illiberal parties like Vlaams Belang – and when one of those supposed champions of liberty starts to sound uncomfortably like the Islamist enemies of freedom whom he purports to despise – then there’s something terribly wrong, and genuinely evil, afoot.

The goal of the “gay agenda,” or whatever you want to call it, is (according to the queer theorists themselves) to recast all of culture, and I mean all of culture, from a queer perspective. It is to forever bring an end to “heteronormativity,” which means the presumptive interpretation of reality through a straight lens. This is to be replaced with the presumptive interpretation of reality through a gay lens. Hence all of history, all of contemporary society, all of literature, all of social sciences, all of politics, all social norms are to reinterpreted from a queer perspective — or at least what the activists have defined as a queer perspective.

This goal has absolutely nothing to do with “equal rights” or “gay marriage” or anything like that. The goal is to forge yet another form of “identity politics,” to contrive a new significant minority group. And the reason for that is to create yet one more stress fracture through society, to accelerate its splintering into a million warring factions, so that there is a general breakdown of society, as a necessary prerequisite for revolution. Complete fundamental revolution — not just a political revolution.

Any feeling of unity among people, of trans-divisional solidarity, of contentment, needs to be wiped away. Because a contented society will never consent to revolution. This is the whole purpose of identity politics, or race-baiters, of “queer studies,” of the whole seemingly incomprehensible obsession with “race, class and gender,” of any movement which intentionally causes rifts in the cohesion of American society: the ultimate goal is the eradication of all pre-existing social norms, so that we can “start afresh” with an entirely new moral code and social structure after a fundamental revolution.

Some queer theorists are aware of this ultimate goal, but some are not. They go through the motions, not even cognizant of why they’re doing it, content to go with the flow. But if you read the foundational documents, the deep theorists, then the overarching goal is laid out plain to see.

I’m all for equal rights for everyone, just as you are — but you are dreadfully naive if you think this has anything to do with equal rights or even with sexuality per se, bi- or otherwise. This is about the push for revolution.

And I’m not calling it a “communist” revolution for a reason, because it goes way beyond mere “communism,” way beyond just economics. I think even Marx himself would be shocked and mortified at what he has unleashed, or at least what he has inspired. But actually it’s not his fault: there have been attempts at Total Revolution in the past, some successful, some not: the Christianization of the Roman Empire; the Islamic conquest of the Middle East; the French Revolution; the Great Leap Forward/Cultural Revolution in China; the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia; etc. In most cases, successful or not, the end result was wholesale slaughter, and the subsequent new social order and moral code was no better than the one it replaced.

Evidently Charles' post was directed at the "teabagging" movement, not at fellow-travelers conjuring up evidence of a sinister homosexual conspiracy to press Little Pink Books into the hands of all Americans and force everyone into same-sex marriages. Nonetheless, Zombie's rant has more than a whiff of lunatic paranoia about it.

To this day, we still don't know where Charles stands on the issue of same-sex marriage, and we suspect that won't change anytime soon; but as the desperate opponents of equal rights -- many of whom are allied, blogospherically and otherwise, with Charles' most fervent enemies -- frantically ramp up their mendacious attacks on gay and lesbian Americans, the issue will become more and more difficult for him to ignore.

Two ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspapers have altered a photo of Israel's new cabinet, removing two female ministers.

Limor Livnat and Sofa Landver were grouped with the rest of the 30-member cabinet for their inaugural photo.

But Yated Neeman newspaper digitally changed the picture by replacing them with two men. The Shaa Tova newspaper blacked the women out.

Publishing pictures of women is viewed by many ultra-orthodox Jews as a violation of female modesty.

When terrorism doesn't matter

So, an extremist wing of the IRA is back in action by killing soldiers and policemen, and in a matter of hours, two shooting sprees claim several lives, one in Alabama, one in Germany.

What do these incidents have in common? None of them involved any Muslim terrorists. So imagine my surprise, when these stories passed by unreported on Little Green Footballs, Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrieks. Has it become a dogma that only Muslim nutters count, and that armed assaults on children inside schools are insignificant, or why are these veteran terrorist hunters silent? In terms of statistics, in the US and Europe, your kids are less safer in their own school from random maniacs than they are from any attacks by Muslims. So why -pray- should these professional pundits report on them?

Alas, if these people were pressed into mentioning it, Charles Johnson would quote the news site, along with a snarky prediction that the Euroweenies will clamp down on guns even further, Robert Spencer would feverishly explain that the young German murderer is not of Muslim background, and thus cannot by any standard be called a real terrorist, and Pamela (Shrieking Harpy) Geller.. Well, she would dig up a conspiracy theory on how young Tim Kretschmer came in contact with a Turkish pupil in his school, whose father knew somebody whose cousin back in Turkey listened to a sermon by a radical Imam condemning the West, and thus "proving" how this horrible incident is clear proof of creeping Jihad that will turn all trees gray and cause all our hair to drop out.

God forbid there were one Mahmoud included in these stories, in which case there would've been reports from said deskchair fighters all day long.

I must also note that Gjermani mentions the fact that Spencer has threatened legal action against her, and that he does this rather regularly to people who write about him without agreeing with him and heaping praise upon him.

Here's one comment from the LGF post, and I fully expect for Spencer to fire back at this attack, so there may well be much more to post on on this subject. One thing's clear though, Johnson's not giving these attacks up anytime soon. In last night's Academy Awards thread, the undead one, Charles' faithful doppelänger, pontificated thusly:

A cursory browse through the past 30 Best Picture winners reveals that only 5 of them fall into any of these categories -- or 6, if one accepts Zombie's bizarre insinuation that Slumdog Millionaire is somehow a Muslim story, as opposed to a story about a protagonist who happens to be a Muslim.

I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, so I can't comment on this claim, except to say that if there really are coded jihadi messages embedded in it, they seem to have escaped the attention of pretty much the entire right-wing commentariat up to now.

As for Best Picture winners with gay themes, one has to go all the way back to 1969's Midnight Cowboy. And as far as I can tell, no "prostitute-with-a-heart-of-gold" picture has ever won an Oscar, at least not during this Modern Era of Political Correctness that Zombie so snarkily bemoans.

Has the strain of living in America's most liberal city, and the resulting conflict between his or her innate live-and-let-live-ism and the need to pander to an über-Republican audience, finally made Zombie snap? That's the only logical explanation.

Robert Spencer just keeps digging himself deeper and deeper into the hole of no return to incredibility. I said this before, He should be GRATEFUL to Charles and Cato, if he truly had made this Facebook joining in haste and error.

Spencer, if you truly want to be known and remembered as a man of integrity, then this is how you do it. Rebuke your hate loving, genocide advocating associates! Save your money on the lawyers, and stop the threats and intimidation. You have to own up and take personal responsibility for your own bad decisions, actions, behaviors and associations. Mr. Spencer, your expert voice on Islam and against "jihad", will be all for naught, and will fall on deafened ears. NO one with wisdom or knowledge of the facts of your associations, will hear you, believe you, or support you or your work.

Oh, but it really is....) and Charles started sniffing around like the hound he is. Not like a journalist mind you. Oh, no. We're far from that realm here, which is exactly why we here post about it, and exactly why Chris Selley of The National Post ripped into Pamela Geller as well. But what's a good Blog War Soap Opera without repercussions? Enter Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, just like the gloating daytime beauty queen evil mastermind on TV, here to post on Pamela's minor downfall:

Johnson then quotes the article, which was covered by us here, then adds his commentary:

This is, after all, the man who had just accused Robert Spencer of stooping to the tactics of the mutual targets of both men, "the islamists", so it wouldn't exactly behoove him to get too giddy over Pamela being outraged at having been called "an anti-Muslim maniac". With people like Geller, etc., on "my side" (and I use the term extremely loosely), I think I'm beginning to get a fair idea of what a traditional liberal (like Joe Lieberman) feels like when having to talk to the likes of, say, the guy from DailyKos.

It's like trying to explain Einstein's Theory of Relativity (that, among other things, pretty much limits space travel to speeds below 300,000 km/sec) to a "UFO contactee" type. (Good luck with that one. I've tried.)

I gave a little money for that headstone, because I felt terrible (then and now) for yet another victim of honor killing -- and who, at the time, had only a pauper's marker, if I recall right. And now I'm sorry it's become such a damnable football. Aqsa Pervez doesn't deserve that.

I stopped reading Atlas a couple of years ago because her shrillness and all-or-nothing views. As a UK friend of mine would put it, she doesn't just go over the top: she's over the top and three trenches deep before the whistle even blows. Now I wish I had listened to my rational side and stayed away this time, too.

I don't feel the plan to erect a memorial or buy a gravestone is terribly inappropriate, although I can see the argument. But what is very clear is that Pamela's rabid antics and crazy conspiracy theories have lead people in the real world to consider her a nut and a problem. It's easy to get sucked into the accolades from fellow nuts on the internet but that doesn't change the fact that she's still a nut in the real world. Normal people don't want to be involved with her.
Judging from her reaction to this article it's pretty clear that she doesn't see the problem.

maybe the girl has some family members who care for her.

One of the reasons why I'm critical of islam is because I am a feminist, that is that I believe in a woman's right to self determination. Obviously, it was a right Ms. Parvez was denied, and her attempt to have any control over her own life was paid for with her own blood. Demanding respect for a woman once she's already dead is too late, and I have seen nothing to suggest that Ms Geller is concerned, much less aware, about the feminist movement within islam. Rather it seems she is predominately concerned with herself. Ms Parvez was exploited in life by islamic misogyny, and didn't need to be exploited in death so an egomaniac could look as though she cares about the fate of muslim women. For indeed- Ms Geller hasn't apparently taken the time to consider the fate of muslim women throughout europe should her friends in vlaams belang gain all the political power they so desperately want. Rather, these women would be getting thrown to the wolves in being forced to go live in islamic societies where their murders would likely go unpunished. This gravestone would not stop a single additional honor killing from taking place. But pamela wants to think she's doing something about the issue. She's not in the slightest, and for her to think otherwise is delusional.

It is amazing to me what Pamela actually does for attention. Let's face it, she's an attention whore.

She has no subtlety, no wit, no intelligence. All she has is rage.

She appears to believe that rage was what made Oriana Fallaci famous, or what gave her last stand validity above the rest. She is unable to comprehend that Oriana had a lifetime of sage words behind that rage. If all you see are Oriana's final words, you might be sorely tempted to dismiss them until you read more about her history and work.

That is what gave Oriana's rage the validity it had earned. Oriana wasn't just any idiot ranting the way Pamela rants; Oriana was one of the best and had earned that right.

Rage was not all that Oriana had expressed. Rage was the culmination of seeing the betrayal of what she spent a lifetime expressing.

Pamela has no credit to her name. All that Pamela started with was rage. The more time passes, the louder she gets. Pamela isn't finishing her career with an operatic loud masterpiece of an aria, she thinks she can start it and get louder than the last one on stage.

That isn't how it works, Pamela. Sometimes, a loud song is fine, but most people want to hear music most of the time.

Most sane people, anyway.

Pamela, why don't you shut yourself down for a while and take a sabbatical for, say, a year? Try to relax. Try to breathe the air and travel and interview people. Become the great reporter that Oriana was before she earned the right to write a masterpiece of a rant. Perhaps you'll see what you've been all along.

For now, all you do is rant. But good rants are also sewn with skill, wit, and experience - none of which you have. Perhaps it would be a good idea to acquire them first before you try to pick up such a delicate brush.

Pamela, you are not Oriana Fallaci. You are not a masterful reporter with vast swathes of experience.

Mass deportations. Start with the non-citizens. Then continue with the naturalized and US born or converted muslims. I guess he didn’t expect me to be able to do this, before he staked his reputation on a claim that was completely false, and publicly accused me of lying.

Anti-Islam Dutch MP Geert Wilders has been barred from entering Britain, after a protest was lodged by Muslim House of Lords member Nazir Ahmed.

Yes, it’s a disgrace. Geert Wilders has the same right to free speech as anyone else, and the government of Britain is demonstrating once again that they’ve completely lost their way in a maze of multicultural contradictions.

However, Wilders himself does not deserve to be called an icon of free speech, since he explicitly wants to ban the Koran and make Islam illegal in Europe; in other words, he wants to take away other people’s freedom of speech and freedom of religion, and that is simply wrong. Book banning is what totalitarians do, not believers in free speech.

Also note that Wilders has recently announced he plans to form an alliance with the neofascist Belgian party Vlaams Belang.

So while I denounce Britain’s decision, I can’t support Wilders either while he maintains these positions and associations. Britain is wrong, and Wilders is also wrong. It’s a bad situation all around.

(Bold my emphasis, and truly, isn't this what I've been busy posting on? Maybe Spencer and Pamela Atlas will get the message now that its on LGF.)

When will the Europeans start to take a more comprehensive, intellectual look at American principles? That limiting speech doesn't solve the underlying issues, but only masks them? That continuing with their anti-American sentiments makes it more difficult to consider alternative options to dealing with their issues?

We don't have everything perfect here in America, but what we did get right has allowed bigots to remain on the fringes where they belong, not masking their bigotry and gaining large following that legitimize them.

I know a lot of individual Europeans love America and Americans. What is wrong with the rest of them though? Embrace free speech! Embrace individual rights! And maybe from there some solutions to european issues could be found.

Charles, I do not believe there are any "good ideas" regarding the situation in Europe, only ugly choices. I do not like any of them. I have no contact with neo-Nazis, fascists, Creationists, Truthers or Flat Earthers. I am not in a panic about Islam, but I am concerned about the fate of Western Civilization and consider free and open discussion of issues to be one of the bedrocks of that civilization.

If someone has been offended by any of my comments, please understand that no offense was intended.

I'm not offended - it's just that I've heard all of these arguments for compromising principles and hooking up with really bad people because "it's our only choice or we're doomed!" many times before.

Sorry to take the tone to a more serious note here, but there have been many comments lately regarding freedom of speech, something I am all for (despite Robert Spencer's emailed accusations to the contrary). It is just glaringly obvious that the only free speech cried for by the "counter-jihadists" is for those critical of Islam yet they would happily see all Muslims silenced. Take the case of Dutch politician Geert Wilders for example, a case that is being pounded again and again at Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs, with links in both sidebars. Here is part of Spencer's take on the issue:

I have personally heard him sound much less cavalier and indifferent than this about this question, but ultimately that is immaterial. The whole purpose of free speech laws is to protect speech that the powerful find offensive, because it threatens their power. And that, as I explained above, is why this is happening.

John Cole is not impressed with Roger el-Simon's latest gambit, i.e. summarily dumping all the hard-working (if not particularly hard-thinking) bloggers who built JammieCorp into what it is today, and going to an all-video format.

There is so much to love about this, I don’t know where to start, but certainly Joe the Plumber bemoaning the lack of spending cuts and general program cuts in the stimulus bill was a highlight. It is almost as if he doesn’t have the first damned clue what he is talking about. A close runner-up would be Instapundit heralding Bush’s MBA as evidence of his awesome managerial skills. There was just so much to love, it is hard to narrow down the “best” parts.

I really don’t understand how bipartisanship is ever going to work when one of the parties is insane. Imagine trying to negotiate an agreement on dinner plans with your date, and you suggest Italian and she states her preference would be a meal of tire rims and anthrax. If you can figure out a way to split the difference there and find a meal you will both enjoy, you can probably figure out how bipartisanship is going to work the next few years.

While Charles Johnson is entertaining his little green funhouse with the overchewed topic of Barack Obama's Muslim roots (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/32581_Suddenly_Obama_Has_Muslim_Roots), he has either overseen, or is just uncomfortable with the fact that Russia has stopped its new short-range missile program in the wake of the new administration's attitude, as of Obama's and Medvedev's pledge to stop the 'drift' in the US-Russian relations. For those who are interested in world peace, this can be considered a good first step in the new US administration's foreign policy.

So Charles, let this be a reminder from LGF Watch that you might want to report on that.

Though while we think about it for a while, he most probably will not.

Sometimes Charles Johnson's postings are so baffling that you have to wonder whether he is pursuing a political agenda or just plain dumb.

Take this one.

Europe has been overwhelmingly sympathetic to the terror suspects imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, so this seems like a very good idea.

France is pushing for European Union countries to take 60 of the detainees deemed innocent but at risk of torture in their home country, according to a report by the German magazine Der Spiegel that was picked up by Reuters.

Notice that the Europeans are only interested in the ones “deemed innocent.” Naturally.

Well duh! Imagine the Europeans wanting to let the Americans deal with the criminals they picked up. Crazy huh? And only accepting the ones that aren't going to end up in a US high security prison? Wow. It's hard to see how Charles finds that a difficult idea to comprehend.

Then there's this one.

Barack Obama’s first interview since his inauguration went to Al Arabiya, the virulently antisemitic Arab satellite network that regularly broadcasts support for jihad and militant Islam. This is an absolutely horrible precedent, and the implied weakness will surely encourage jihadists worldwide—no matter what Obama thinks he’s “communicating” to them.

This is the very same channel that allows Hamas rockets to be fired from their studio building in Gaza: Video: Al Arabiya Studio Used As Rocket Launching Site.

Anyone who follows the Middle East knows that Al Arabiya was actually launched as a progressive/liberal challenger to Al Jazeera. I mean, look at their presenters for chrissakes! They're the last people to throw their lot in with Hamas. And, if you view the video Charles links to the presenter certainly doesn't look like someone who would "allow" Hamas rockets to be fired from her studio building. Her reaction is one of incredulity and concern.

To misinterpret that isn't just stupid, it's got to be outright malice. And there you have the reason for these idiotic postings. They're the product of a man driven to smear the politics of progress and peace - however stupid it makes him look.

The attack on Gaza is a bit like a Rorschach test. People's reaction tells you a lot about what kind of person they are.

Take Charles Johnson of littlegreenfootballs.com :

What's striking is that Charles Johnson's reaction to this is: they probably deserved it. All of them. Indiscriminately.

Also, I happened to walk by a mosque today in San Francisco just as it was letting out after Friday prayers. You never saw so many smiles and elated people in your life. They weren't exactly high-fiving each other on the sidewalk, but close; everybody had a big grin and they looked like they were on top of the world.

A Simple Question for Simple Minds

1) Release them to their home countries
2) Try them in the US criminal justice system
3) House them in a tent city on the White House lawn

As even the dumbest Republicon should know by now, it's not that simple. What should, and likely will, happen is that the inmates will be divided into three groups:

1) Those who will be charged, who will either face some sort off extraterritorial court or be transferred to the US for trial

2) Those who won't be charged and will therefore be released. They will either be a) sent home or b) sent to a third country because they face persecution at home but the US won't have them.

Camping out on the White House lawn is not an option. But you wouldn't expect someone like Charles to get that.

As everyone in Charles Johnson's home state of California knows, last week a slim majority of voters voted Yes on Proposition 8, which imposes a ban on same-sex marriages.

Since then, tens of thousands of protesters have poured into the streets of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and other cities. Some of the protests have been violent; most have resulted in street closures and other unpleasantness.

Usually, when protests of this magnitude occur -- especially when the overwhelming majority of the protesters happen to be liberal Obama-lovers -- Charles and his loyal doppelgänger Zombie are at their keyboards 24/7 breathlessly reporting every single questionably-worded sign and rude chant.

But now -- not a word. From either of them.

Either Charles and Zombie don't think the furore over Proposition 8 is newsworthy, an attitude that is easily dispelled by the quickest glance at the front page of any California newspaper, or they lack the cojones to admit to their rabidly conservative ~~readership~~ donor base that they actually agree with the protesters' contention that religious biases have no place in the state Constitution.
